Jailed former detective ordered to pay back £75,000 of criminal gains

A former GMP detective jailed after an investigation by our Anti-Corruption Unit has now been ordered to pay back £75,000.

Andrew Talbot (14/06/1970) was jailed for 19 years in September 2024 after being convicted of stealing cocaine from an evidence store and selling the drugs to the public.

At a Proceeds of Crime (POCA) hearing today (1/12/2025) at Liverpool Crown Court, it was disclosed that Talbot had benefited from £179,372 derived from his criminal activity.

Talbot has now been ordered to pay back £75,420 within three months or face two extra years in prison.

Detective Inspector John Andrew, from our Anti-Corruption Unit, said: “Talbot is already paying for his crimes by losing his livelihood and his liberty, and now he must financially pay for his crimes.

“This outcome shows in the strongest terms possible that any officer guilty of corruption will be fully brought to justice and will not be allowed to gain at the expense of colleagues and the public.”
