A 40-year-old man from Enschede was sentenced to eight years in prison and ordered to undergo compulsory TBS psychiatric treatment for raping two very young children inside the home-based childcare operated out of his home by his wife, RTV Oost reported. According to the ruling, the children were between 0 and 4 years old at the time.
The crimes, committed between 2021 and 2025, involved repeated assaults, the creation of child sexual abuse material—including images of his own daughter— and the sharing of that material online. The court also convicted him of possessing animal pornography.
The case emerged after a tip to a U.S. child-abuse hotline, which received images he had distributed through the chat app Kik. Investigators traced his account to a Dutch email address and IP address linked to the home in Enschede.
During a police search on January 13, officers recognized the family’s kitchen as the same kitchen shown in one of the child sexual abuse images. His wife, who owned the daycare, identified a censored photo shown to her as a child she cared for.
The man admitted most of what he did. He told investigators that he abused the children when his wife was upstairs caring for other daycare children.
He said he took the victims into the kitchen when his wife was upstairs and closed the small gate between the living room and the kitchen so no other children could enter. He told investigators the abuse happened about fifteen times with one child and “several times, but slightly less often” with the other.
“The defendant acted in a highly calculated manner. He called one of the girls into the kitchen when his wife couldn’t see the kids. He recorded the sexual abuse and shared the images with others,” the judges said.
The court added that “There was a grave violation of the physical and mental integrity of these young victims and a gross abuse of the trust placed in him.”
Psychological experts diagnosed him with both a personality disorder and a sexual disorder. One expert found that he is driven by secretive behavior, noting he also had multiple extramarital relationships with both men and women.
The experts concluded that “the restraint on his (pedo)sexual impulses and his need to seek excitement is seriously lacking.” They warned that the risk of reoffending remains and advised mandatory TBS treatment. The court followed that advice.
Prosecutors had demanded eight years in prison and TBS. The court adopted that request. The defendant has two weeks to appeal.
