Police Seize 404,000 Meth Pills After Suspects Abandon Car

Police have seized more than 400,000 methamphetamine pills after intercepting a suspected drug trafficking operation in Nakhon Phanom province, with suspects fleeing and abandoning their vehicle in dense forest.

The late-night operation involved multiple police units working together to block a trafficking route believed to be used to transport narcotics from the northeast to Bangkok. No arrests were made at the scene, and authorities are now expanding the investigation to track down those responsible.

The operation took place on 14 December 2568 at around 00.30, under the direction of Pol Gen Kittirat Phanphet, Commissioner-General of the Royal Thai Police, along with senior commanders. Officers from the Sub-Division for the Protection of Children and Women (DS), Border Patrol Police Company 23 and operational teams 1 and 4 were deployed to intercept a drug trafficking network operating in Nakhon Phanom province.

Earlier officers spotted a suspicious vehicle travelling in the Ban Kut Khao Pun area of Mueang Nakhon Phanom district. The car appeared heavily loaded, with its wheels and wheel arches showing red soil and mud stains, raising suspicions that it had recently travelled through rural or border areas. When officers identified themselves and signalled the driver to stop, the vehicle accelerated and fled.

Police pursued the suspect vehicle until it was eventually abandoned in a densely wooded area in Renu Nakhon district, Nakhon Phanom province. The driver escaped into the forest and remained at large. Officers then secured the area and conducted a detailed search of the abandoned vehicle.

During the search, police discovered a large quantity of illicit drugs concealed in the rear of the car. The seized items were identified as Category 1 narcotics, specifically methamphetamine pills, with an estimated total of 404,000 pills. All drugs were seized as evidence and documented according to legal procedures.

The seized vehicle and narcotics were handed over to investigators at Na Don Police Station for further legal action. Police said the seizure was part of a broader strategy to disrupt major trafficking routes from northeastern border areas into the capital. Investigators are now analysing intelligence, vehicle records, and other evidence to identify suspects and dismantle the wider trafficking network.

Authorities confirmed that efforts are ongoing to locate and arrest all individuals involved in the operation. Further arrests are expected as the investigation progresses and links to other trafficking activities are examined.
