Task Force seizes 5lbs of fentanyl and 481 pounds of THC

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — A recent investigation in East Tennessee led to the seizure more than $10 million worth of fentanyl and THC.

On Friday, the Ninth Judicial Drug Task Force announced that agents, along with federal, state, and local partners, recently made the seizure of 5.2 pounds of fentanyl and 481 pounds of THC. The task force serves Loudon, Meigs, Morgan and Roane counties.

According to the task force, the fentanyl alone had a wholesale value of roughly $100,000. The amount of fentanyl that was seized was enough for 1,179,000 two milligram doses, which the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration considers a potentially lethal dose.

In total, the seizure had a street value of more than $10 million, the task force said.

“This operation demonstrates the critical work being done to disrupt trafficking networks and prevent these deadly substances from reaching the streets,” the Ninth Judicial Drug Task Force wrote on social media. “We commend all agencies involved for their coordination, intelligence, and dedication to keeping our communities safe.”

The task force is made up of members from the Loudon Police Department, Lenoir City Police Department, the National Guard Counterdrug Unit, and the 9th District Attorney General’s Office, as well as federal partners.
