Two Coventry men tried to smuggle cannabis and phones into HMP Parc with a drone and were jailed after police stopped them on the M4.

Two Coventry men who tried to smuggle cannabis and mobile phones into a prison using a drone have been jailed. Benjamin Coleman and Ibrahim Hussain made a 140-mile journey to HMP Parc in Wales.
On September 5, 2025, Benjamin Coleman, 37, and Ibrahim Hussain, 43, arrived at the jail in Bridgend at around 2.30am. Hussain was behind the wheel as Coleman tried to use a drone to deliver a bag containing two mobile phones and 66 grams of cannabis into the prison grounds.
Cardiff Crown Court was told the prison security system detected the drone, as reported by WalesOnline. Coleman ran back to the vehicle and told Hussain he had been ‘seen.’
Police intercepted the pair while they were driving on the M4, discovering the drone and bag. Prosecutor Pamela Kaiga said the drugs had a street value of £190 and a prison value between £790 and £1,900. She said the phones would have had a prison value of £1,000 to £1,500.
Hussain said drug dealers had offered him cocaine and £220 to travel to Wales. He claimed he had not known his co-defendant before that evening.
Coleman, from Broomfield Place, Coventry, and Hussain, from Station Street East, Coventry, both pleaded guilty to attempting to convey prohibited items into jail. Coleman has nine previous convictions, including possession with intent to supply drugs.
David Pinell, for Coleman, said the 37-year-old had requested a transfer to a prison near Coventry, as his family could not afford to travel to Wales. It was claimed that dealers held him responsible for a large drug loss and ordered him to travel to HMP Parc.
Hywel Davies, for Hussain, said the 43-year-old was a carer for his partner and had two adult children who were employed and would be unable to care for her if he were imprisoned. Judge Lucy Crowther sentenced Coleman to 27 months’ imprisonment, and Hussain was sentenced to nine months in jail.
