Cumbria Police say more than £14m worth of heroin, cocaine and cannabis has been taken off streets in year-long organised crime crackdown.

Cumbria Police say officers have taken more than £14 million worth of illegal drugs off the county’s streets over the past year as part of a sustained effort to disrupt serious and organised crime.
The force’s year-long campaign, known as Operation Alliance, involved targeted warrants, stop-searches and other proactive tactics aimed at dismantling criminal enterprises responsible for distributing controlled substances. Detectives seized large quantities of cannabis, cocaine and heroin as part of the operation.
In addition to drugs, officers also acted against the financial infrastructure of crime groups. More than £2.7 million in cash was detained or frozen during the year as detectives sought to disrupt the profitability of organised networks.
Temporary Detective Chief Superintendent Ian Hussey said the past year saw significant progress in putting offenders behind bars, removing harmful drugs from circulation and dismantling elements of criminal networks that harm local communities. “We’re committed to taking on those serious and organised criminals whose activities cause the most harm,” he said, adding that the force would continue its work throughout 2026.
The initiative also involved safeguarding work for people believed to be at risk and close collaboration with partner agencies to support wider crime-prevention efforts.
Cumbria’s Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner, David Allen, described the results as significant, noting that taking drugs off the streets not only disrupts supply but helps protect families and neighbourhoods from the wider harms associated with drug misuse and organised crime.
Police encouraged local residents to continue reporting suspicious activity, saying public information remains crucial to maintaining momentum against organised criminal groups.
