A ransomware attack on BridgePay disrupted payment systems used by Texas and Florida local governments; company works with FBI to resolve outage.

A ransomware attack on a Florida-based technology company has disrupted payment systems used by several local governments in Texas and Florida, officials say.
The incident involves BridgePay Network Solutions, a payment technology provider whose services support point-of-sale and online payment processing for dozens of local government agencies and small businesses. The company first reported system-wide outages last Friday and later confirmed it was dealing with a ransomware attack.
BridgePay is working with federal authorities, including the FBI and the U.S. Secret Service, along with external cybersecurity specialists to investigate the breach and restore systems. As of now, the company has not provided a timeline for when services will be fully operational.
Officials stress that they do not believe payment card data was stolen or compromised during the attack. The affected systems include payment gateways and processing tools used by government entities to accept utility payments and other transactions.
In the city of Frisco, Texas, officials confirmed that their utility water payment portal remains offline due to the BridgePay outage, advising residents that in-person payments can still be made at city hall. Other private businesses that rely on BridgePay’s infrastructure have also reported service disruptions.
No ransomware gang or threat actor has publicly claimed responsibility for the attack so far, and BridgePay did not immediately respond to requests for additional comment.
Cybersecurity experts say ransomware incidents targeting widely used payment software and infrastructure have become more common, with past attacks causing widespread outages in retail and government sectors.
