Gardaí in County Carlow have seized illegal drugs with an estimated street value of around €1.7 million and arrested a woman in her 30s in connection with the investigation.
The Carlow Drugs Unit stopped and searched a vehicle in Carlow town on Sunday and recovered suspected heroin and cannabis worth more than €136,000. A follow-up search at a residence uncovered approximately 12 kilograms of suspected heroin with an estimated value of €1.68 million, along with additional cannabis herb and resin and prescription tablets.
A woman in her 30s was detained at a Garda station in the Eastern Region under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996 in connection with the seizure.
Gardaí said all seized substances will be submitted to Forensic Science Ireland for analysis as part of ongoing inquiries into suspected drug supply and trafficking in the area.
The operation forms part of Operation Tara, an ongoing investigation targeting the sale and distribution of controlled drugs in Carlow and surrounding counties
