DOJ charges multiple individuals known as JoyInc after dark web drug trafficking ring used Los Angeles mailboxes to distribute narcotics across the U.S.

Multiple people have been charged by the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) for their alleged roles in a dark web drug trafficking operation known as JoyInc that used mailboxes in Los Angeles County to facilitate the distribution of illegal narcotics across the United States.
According to federal prosecutors, the group used encrypted communication and dark web marketplaces to coordinate orders and shipments of controlled substances. Rather than shipping packages directly to buyers’ homes, the defendants allegedly directed deliveries to mailboxes and parcel locker locations in Los Angeles County a tactic designed to evade law enforcement detection and reduce the risk of interception.
The indictment details how the trafficking ring managed a prolific distribution network, moving significant quantities of illegal drugs through the U.S. postal system and private carriers. Investigators say this method allowed the organisation to operate for an extended period before federal authorities took action.
Agents from the U.S. Postal Inspection Service (USPIS), FBI, and prosecutors from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Central District of California worked jointly on the case to identify suspects, gather evidence and coordinate arrests.
Officials allege the operation utilised dark web marketplaces, encrypted messaging platforms, and a network of drop locations that included mailboxes in Los Angeles County. With payments solely being completed through different cryptocurrencies. By routing packages through these intermediate drop points, members of the ring hoped to obscure the origin and final destination of narcotics shipments.
The charges which include conspiracy to distribute controlled substances reflect an ongoing federal effort to target online drug distribution networks that exploit loopholes in shipping and postal infrastructure. Additional charges could follow as the investigation continues.
