Victorian police and US Homeland Security seize $15 million in LSD, arrest two in major international drug trafficking probe.

Australian authorities, in cooperation with United States law enforcement, have seized more than $15 million worth of LSD in one of Victoria’s largest drug busts, resulting in multiple arrests. The operation, led by Taskforce Icarus with support from Victoria Police, Australian Border Force and Homeland Security Investigations, targeted an alleged international trafficking network.
The investigation began in September 2024 after US authorities flagged suspicious activity linked to LSD importation and alerted their Australian counterparts. Over the course of the inquiry, officers intercepted approximately 120 postal parcels containing LSD, which were intended for distribution domestically and internationally.
On execution of coordinated search warrants at residential addresses in Mount Martha and Wollert in Victoria, investigators recovered 750,000 LSD tablets, 60 grams of LSD crystal. Enough for an estimated 1.5 million individual doses as well as precursor chemicals, cash and cryptocurrency. Additional small quantities of controlled drugs were also seized at the Wollert address.
Two individuals from the Mount Martha area, a 35-year-old man and a 44-year-old woman have been charged with multiple offences related to the exportation, trafficking and possession of large commercial quantities of border-controlled drugs. They are scheduled to appear before the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court later this month.
Detectives involved described the seizure as one of the most significant of its kind in the state’s history, underscoring the continuing threat posed by organised drug syndicates and the importance of international cooperation in disrupting illicit drug supply chains.
Police say the investigation remains ongoing, with further inquiries aimed at identifying additional participants and trafficking routes.
