Australia Seizes 28 kg Cocaine Hidden in Luxury Bus

The U.S. and Mexico carried out a rare coordinated Pacific operation, seizing several tons of cocaine from a vessel and arresting suspects at sea.

Australian authorities have seized 28 kilograms of cocaine concealed inside a luxury bus after intercepting the vehicle aboard a cargo vessel at Outer Harbor in South Australia on 16 February 2026, officials say.

Officers from the Australian Border Force stopped the bus while it was being transported on a roll-on roll-off ship and conducted a detailed, intelligence-led search using technology such as video-scopes and detector dogs. Investigators found multiple 1 kg packages of a white powder hidden behind a television screen, later tests confirmed the substance as cocaine.

The seized drugs were referred to the Australian Federal Police (AFP), which took custody of the narcotics and began its own inquiries into the incident. Authorities estimate the cocaine’s street value at about $9 million, with the potential to be divided into tens of thousands of smaller deals if it had reached the community.

AFP Detective Acting Superintendent Simon Lalic emphasised the combined efforts of the AFP, ABF and their state, Commonwealth and international partners in identifying and disrupting attempts by organised crime networks to smuggle illicit substances into Australia. “Criminals are driven by their own greed and profit and will attempt any method to import harmful illicit substances into our country,” he said, adding that law enforcement is committed to staying ahead of creative concealment methods.

Officers involved called the detection a significant outcome for community safety, noting that every interception reduces the supply of dangerous drugs and weakens organised criminal syndicates operations.
