Mexican and Salvadoran navies intercept narco sub and vessel, seizing more than 10 tons of cocaine and arresting multiple suspects.

Mexican and Salvadoran authorities have intercepted several major drug shipments at sea this week, collectively seizing over 10 tonnes of cocaine in one of the most substantial maritime anti-narcotics operations in the region this year.
The Mexican navy announced it had seized about four tonnes of suspected cocaine from a semi-submersible narco sub vessel approximately 250 nautical miles south of Manzanillo, Colima. Three individuals were detained during the operation, which was supported by intelligence from the U.S. Northern Command and the Joint Inter-agency Task Force South. A Video released by officials showed naval forces intercepting the low-profile craft and confiscating the narcotics aboard.
In a separate operation, the El Salvadoran navy reported what it described as the largest drug seizure in its history 6.6 tonnes of cocaine hidden inside the ballast tanks of a Tanzania-registered vessel located roughly 380 miles southwest of the Salvadoran coast. Ten people from Colombia, Nicaragua, Panama and Ecuador were arrested in connection with the interception. This represents a direct and multi million-dollar blow to the financial structures of organized crime.
Both countries’ actions come amid heightened regional efforts to disrupt trans-American drug trafficking routes, which often use speedboats, narco subs and larger vessels to move cocaine toward North American markets. Analysts say these maritime interdictions represent a significant blow to the financial structures of organized crime by preventing millions of doses from reaching street markets.
The coordinated interdictions highlight ongoing international cooperation between Latin American navies and U.S. military and law enforcement partners in combating drug trafficking across the Pacific Ocean.
