Dutch Man Sentenced 20 Years in US for Fentanyl Trafficking

A 40-year-old Dutch national gets 20 years in US federal prison for selling fentanyl to an undercover officer and trafficking with a drug distribution group.

A 40-year-old Dutch national has been sentenced to 20 years in a U.S. federal prison after pleading guilty to drug trafficking and money-laundering charges tied to a fentanyl distribution organisation, officials said.

The man identified in court documents as Gerad Nigel P. was arrested in 2024 in Montana after attempting to sell 2 kilograms of the potent opioid fentanyl to an undercover law enforcement officer.

Prosecutors said he was a key member of a drug trafficking organisation that smuggled and distributed large quantities of fentanyl across multiple U.S. states, including Montana, Texas and Washington. Authorities estimate the network moved more than 300,000 fentanyl pills, with proceeds laundered through various financial channels.

He pleaded guilty in October 2025 to possession with intent to distribute fentanyl and conspiracy to commit money laundering. At sentencing, a U.S. District Court judge ordered him to serve 240 months behind bars, followed by a period of supervised release.

The case was the result of a multi-agency investigation involving Homeland Security Investigations, the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, the IRS Criminal Investigation Division, and local task forces. Authorities said the investigation also led to the arrest of 13 other suspects connected to the trafficking operation.

Fentanyl, a powerful synthetic opioid prescribed for severe pain under medical supervision, has been at the centre of a growing overdose crisis in the United States, where tens of thousands of people die annually from opioid overdoses involving fentanyl and similar substances.
