Dutch Nationals Arrested in Spain After 3,400 kg Cocaine Seizure

Spanish police arrest 12, including Dutch suspects, in Madrid record cocaine bust with 3.4 tonnes seized, weapons and €1 million cash recovered.

Spanish police have arrested 12 people, including several Dutch nationals, following a major drug bust in the Madrid area that saw authorities seize around 3,400 kilograms of cocaine, reportedly the largest land-based cocaine haul ever in the region.

The operation, dubbed Operación Tocada Space, dismantled an international drug organisation that acted as a logistics hub, collecting cocaine shipments from southern Spain, including areas near Huelva and Cádiz and transporting them to warehouses around Madrid for distribution across Europe.

Spanish police also found weapons and vehicles with hidden compartments, along with over €1 million in cash inside a luxury Mercedes linked to the gang’s leader, identified as Paula Andrea, who was captured while attempting to escape her residence.

Most of those detained at the Alcobendas warehouse were Colombian, but a number of Dutch suspects were among those arrested during the eight coordinated raids across the region.

Authorities say the group served as a specialised service provider for other drug networks, collecting consignments and moving them in convoys toward central distribution points. Spain has become a key gateway for Latin American cocaine entering Europe, with record seizures increasing pressure on criminal syndicates.

The suspects now face charges including drug trafficking, participation in a criminal organisation, illegal possession of weapons and money laundering as investigations continue.
