Man Arrested After €1.54M Cocaine & Cannabis Seizure in Limerick

Gardaí seize €1.54 million in suspected cocaine and cannabis in Limerick; 26-year-old man arrested as part of intelligence-led drugs probe.

A 26-year-old man has been arrested following a major intelligence-led drugs operation in Limerick City that resulted in the seizure of suspected cocaine and cannabis with an estimated combined value of €1.54 million, Gardaí said.

Officers from the Limerick Divisional Drugs Unit stopped a vehicle in the Caherdavin area on 25 February 2026. During a search of that car, Gardaí discovered an estimated €70,000 worth of suspected cocaine and detained the male driver under the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996.

Following the initial stop, investigators obtained warrants and carried out additional searches of a second vehicle and a residential property. Those searches uncovered approximately 35 kg of suspected cannabis (valued at about €700,000) and 11 kg of suspected cocaine worth around €770,000. All seized substances are being sent to Forensic Science Ireland for analysis.

Gardaí said the operation targeted the supply chain of a local crime gang’s drug distribution network, and that investigations into the wider network remain ongoing.

The seizure represents one of several significant drug intercepts by the Limerick DDU in recent years, including a €21.6 million cocaine haul at Foynes Port in 2023.

Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any information that could assist in dismantling organised drug activity in the city and county.
