Morgantown Man Gets 20 Year Sentence for Child Pornography

A Morgantown, WV man is sentenced to 20 years in federal prison for multiple child pornography charges after a jury conviction.

A 41-year-old man from Morgantown, West Virginia, has been sentenced to 20 years in federal prison for multiple child pornography offences, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of West Virginia announced.

Christopher Harp was convicted at trial in April 2024 on three counts of receipt of child pornography and one count of possession of child pornography. A federal jury found him guilty of knowingly receiving and possessing hundreds of illegal images and videos depicting children, including minors under the age of 12.

U.S. Attorney Matthew L. Harvey said the sentence reflects a strong commitment to holding offenders accountable and protecting the community from individuals who exploit children. The conviction and sentencing are part of the Department of Justice’s ongoing Project Safe Childhood initiative, which coordinates federal, state and local resources to investigate and prosecute child sexual exploitation crimes.

Investigators from the Federal Bureau of Investigation uncovered vast amounts of illegal material on Harp’s computers, tablets and portable drives during the multi-year federal case. Evidence presented at trial showed the offences spanned nearly a decade.

In addition to his 240-month prison term, Harp was ordered to serve 10 years of supervised release after his sentence and was directed to pay $30,000 in restitution to assist victims of child exploitation.

Chief U.S. District Judge Thomas S. Kleeh presided over the sentencing, emphasizing that exploitation of children will not be tolerated and that law enforcement will continue to pursue those who commit such crimes.
