“Doomsday Prepper” Jailed After Gun and Ammo Found

A gun-obsessed “doomsday prepper” was jailed after investigators found a pistol, ammunition and equipment to manufacture rounds.

A self-described “doomsday prepper” has been jailed in the United Kingdom after authorities discovered a firearm, live ammunition, and equipment used to manufacture additional rounds during a National Crime Agency (NCA) investigation.

Stefan Fenyes, 47, a Slovakian national living in Warwick, was sentenced to five years in prison at Birmingham Crown Court after admitting to possessing a firearm and manufacturing ammunition components.

The investigation began after the NCA detected that Fenyes had placed more than 200 online orders for items that could be used to produce live ammunition. The purchases included specialized tools for reloading spent cartridges, cleaning gun barrels, and storing ammunition.

Officers arrested Fenyes in March last year at his workplace in Royal Leamington Spa. Searches of his home later uncovered a Czech-manufactured pistol with a loaded magazine, along with additional ammunition, gun barrels, and components used to assemble rounds.

Investigators also found survivalist literature and equipment at the property, including military-style guidebooks and various hunting items such as crossbows and knives. Authorities said the materials suggested a strong interest in survivalism and preparing for potential societal collapse.

During questioning, Fenyes told investigators he had been studying how to manufacture ammunition because it might be useful in the event of a foreign invasion or widespread civil unrest. He also claimed the pistol had been accidentally mailed to himself from Slovakia after being left in a fishing tackle box he shipped to the UK.

NCA investigators said the case highlights the risks posed by illegal firearms possession, even in countries with relatively low rates of gun crime. Officials stressed that removing the weapon and ammunition from circulation helped prevent a potentially dangerous situation.

Authorities continue to prioritize investigations into illegal firearms and weapons supply networks as part of broader efforts to prevent serious violence and organized crime in the United Kingdom.
