Darknet vendor interview: insights on drug quality, market trends, harm reduction, and how vendors view trust and reputation in online markets.

The darknet marketplace ecosystem has evolved significantly over the past decade, becoming more structured, reputation-driven, and complex. While much of the public discussion focuses on law enforcement actions or market shutdowns, less attention is given to the perspectives of vendors operating within these environments.
In this interview, DarkDotWeb speaks with current darknet vendor NordicMedTech to explore how the market has changed, how trust and reputation are built, and how vendors view topics such as product quality, transparency, and harm reduction.
To protect operational security, this interview focuses exclusively on opinions, observations, and broader trends rather than specific operational details.
Background & Entry
What originally drew you into online markets?
- The cryptocurrency aspect of business is what caught our interest. The ability to sell drugs, but handle the financials like you would do any other legitimate business is definitely the part that got us in.
How has the ecosystem changed since you first became active?
- First of all, dead drop has become very popular since we first started. I believe there was only one other vendor in Sweden offering this service besides us back in 2023, but now it seems like everyone’s doing it. And I’m glad it has become the norm.
It isn’t as easy as it once was either. Nowadays you have to invest most of your profit to the underlying structure of business to make sure you can always out-compete the competition. Before the competition wasn’t high at all but this is great for quality of course because now Vendors don’t get away with same under-performance as before.
What misconceptions do outsiders have about vendors?
- We are very normal every day people.
How do you view your role within the marketplace ecosystem?
- We put pressure on other vendors since they have to reach a certain level of service and quality for us to not permanently steal buyers. We’re also educating buyers on how to send product to lab making it harder for other vendors to bullshit.
Market Evolution & Trends
How have customer expectations evolved over time?
- Expectations of stealth and fast communications have definitely gone up
What trends are you currently seeing in demand?
- Dead drops in every major city and updated lab reports for every new batch instead of “trust me bro” promises.
How has increased law enforcement pressure changed the landscape?
- Hard to say, not sure if it has, but I’m sure everyone is always on the lookout for information regarding the BKA crackdowns and how we all can stay safer.
Are markets more professional now compared to earlier eras?
- The only market that might reach Archetyp status is Catharsis. Other markets seem to be lacking a lot.
Risk & Psychology
How do you personally manage stress associated with this work?
- Going over the bookkeeping usually helps.
What does “risk” mean to you in this environment?
- Badly managed opsec but also financial risk. Everything’s about managing the money risk since product is spread between so many different people and you also have to be careful and not overextend yourself by putting too much money on a TP from NL without insurance for example.
Simply put, this is a game of trying to double your money again and again, losing as little as you can while doing it. That’s it.
Has your perception of risk changed over time?
- The more you learn, the less confident you become and more humble you’re forced to be. So yeah it has for sure changed.
Do you see this as temporary or long-term?
- Well NMT is a collective, so I’m sure it will live on whether I live or die. Everything is temporary, but I would say NMT is forever.
Ethics & Justification
Do you draw personal ethical boundaries around what you will or won’t sell?
- We have always had a strong stance against prescription pills and opiates. But we would rather not virtue signal and make us out to be better people than we are. NMT has always been a party type drug vendor and it’s too strongly associated with our identity to change that.
How do you rationalize your activity?
- I don’t. It’s obviously wrong and the only logical way people rationalize it is because there’s also other wrongs in society. There’s no judgement here I’m just saying there are right things and then there are wrong things, and this is on the wrong side for sure. That being said we can still do what’s right while doing something wrong. That’s why we lab test and play the game fair.
Do you think marketplaces reduce harm compared to street-level trade?
- I would say so yeah. There much better transparency online and easier for buyers to discuss different vendors. This is the only argument for why selling drugs in the way we are is good. Buyer don’t have to risk getting scammed or robbed, but they can also feel safe that their product is not cut with anything bad.
How do you respond to critics who say vendors exploit addiction?
- Well here the risks are smaller than buying from somewhere else and people will source their needs anyways.
Community & Trust
How important is reputation in your business model?
- Nothing works without it.
What makes a customer “good” from your perspective?
- We don’t judge customers characters, but if we feel that there’s more time spent on random discussions rather than on deals we might reconsider the business relationship.
Have you noticed changes in trust dynamics after major market shutdowns?
- Can’t say I have.
What separates successful vendors from unsuccessful ones?
- Early greed. You gotta be ready to be broke and keep investing in the business and people, rather getting too attached to money and business on a personal level.
Quality Control & Standards
How do you define “quality” in your product category?
- Expected product in correct form, without adulterants. It’s very simple and you don’t need more words to explain that.
Do you feel customers today are more educated about quality than in earlier years?
- I wouldn’t say that’s true. Most are oblivious.
How important is consistency to maintaining your reputation?
- Just as important as reputation. If something stops being consistent you have to let people know immediately so they know what to expect.
What do buyers misunderstand most about product quality?
- Many people for one example believe MDMA can only be 84% pure but that’s not entirely correct. What is true is that the MDMA base in a HCl >99.9% pure crystal is only ~84% MDMA in base form attached to the HCl salt. Same principle applies to speed and other product but with different maths.
In Sweden it’s very common for people to not know that almost all speed sold in Sweden contains added caffeine, so when they try pure amphetamine they think something is wrong because their heart is not skipping a beat.
Purity & Transparency
How do you think purity impacts customer trust in online markets?
- Not purity in itself but the lack of ability to disclose such information is what impacts trust. If vendors had 50% pure product, cut with something safe, and vendor is able to present this information and have the price reflect that, I’m sure they would not receive anything other than love from the community.
Do you believe vendors have a responsibility to be transparent about strength or composition?
- I would say that this kind of transparency is more important in America, where a lot of fentanyl and other faker product is more prevalent, but yes very important in Europe too.
Has the demand for proof of purity increased over time?
- Well we have been able to sprint past competition, largely thanks to it, so yes it feels safe to assume that demand has risen.
Do you think public discussions about purity have made the market safer or more competitive?
- Depends on for what forum, on Catharsis market it has for sure and on certain parts of Dread.
Lab Testing & Verification
What is your opinion on third-party lab testing within darknet markets?
- It’s becoming more popular for sure and I believe third party labs are marketing themselves more towards these specific markets now. One new lab in Spain for example has made a account on Catharsis market where they offer their services through the market, so buyer may essentially buy a lab test via the market without even visiting their site. In my opinion I think this is very good for the market.
Do you think independent testing improves trust in vendors overall?
- It’s only then it truly matters.
Have lab verification expectations changed customer behavior?
- We haven’t gotten there yet, this is still fairly new for most buyers.
Do you see testing culture as becoming standard practice in the future?
- I believe so yes, there’s only a few areas where professional vendors can still improve and this is one of them things. So to get ahead fast as a vendor you will have to start doing this frequently soon for sure.
Harm Reduction
Do you believe vendors play a role in harm reduction?
- I believe vendors hold responsibility to accurately describe their product and help buyers make educated choices.
Have you noticed customers becoming more safety-conscious over time?
- Hard to say for most markets, but on Catharsis market for sure.
Do you think online markets reduce or increase harm compared to offline distribution?
- They reduce the harm.
What does “responsibility” mean to you in this context?
- Authentic descriptions of what you’re selling but also good opsec both for myself and buyers when handling their private information.
Is there anything you wish customers understood about safer consumption?
- Sending product to a lab is very easy and you get a answer faster than you think if you just get it over with and send it in asap when after you buy it.
Technology & Crypto
How has cryptocurrency volatility affected your business?
- It usually even itself out since you since we get sales every day of the month meaning we get both cheap and expensive crypto. We have also started swapping everything for USDT when necessary
What do you think about privacy coins vs. transparent blockchains?
- They are both great for humanity. Bitcoin for transparent value and XMR for personal transactions.
Do you think decentralization will define the next generation of markets?
- Not sure how that would work but sounds very cool and intriguing for sure.
Future Outlook
Where do you see the dark market ecosystem in 5 years?
- Markets will get more advanced dead drops will become the norm in every big city worldwide.
Are exit scams becoming more or less common?
- We haven’t experienced one personally.
If markets disappeared tomorrow, what would happen to the trade?
- The streets would get more problems.
Personal Reflection
Has this experience changed you as a person?
- I have become more desensitized to stress and worry.
Do you ever think about how this ends?
- All the time.
Closure
What do vendors think about journalists covering this space?
- I personally love it. Great initiative and this area on the web needs more coverage for sure.
Do you feel interviews like this increase transparency or unnecessary exposure?
- It increases transparency and also helps buyer and people interested worldwide to see the vendor human side as well. Of course we got to be careful not to expose ourselves too much, but a little can be positive absolutely.
Is there a message you’d like readers to leave with?
- Study your opsec, always swap your coins for XMR, test your product always and have fun out there 🙂
