Hong Kong Customs Seizes HK $6.6M Drugs, 3 Arrested

Hong Kong Customs busts two drug trafficking cases, seizing 11.4kg of ketamine and cocaine worth $6.6M and arresting three suspects.

Hong Kong Customs officers have dismantled two separate drug trafficking operations, seizing narcotics worth an estimated HK$6.6 million (840.000 USD) and arresting three suspects, authorities said.

In the first case, customs officials at Hong Kong International Airport intercepted a suspicious air cargo shipment arriving from the Netherlands. The package had been declared as toys, but an X-ray scan revealed unusual density inside two ceramic statues.

A detailed inspection uncovered about 8 kilograms of ketamine hidden inside the hollowed-out statues. Officers later carried out a controlled delivery operation and arrested a 23-year-old male student in Tai Po when he attempted to collect the parcel. He has been charged with drug trafficking and is scheduled to appear in court.

In a separate incident, customs officers conducting an anti-narcotics operation in Ho Man Tin stopped a suspicious man carrying a reusable bag. A search revealed 1.1 kilograms of crack cocaine, leading to his immediate arrest.

Further investigation took officers to a nearby apartment, where they discovered 2.3 kilograms of cocaine, 53 grams of crack cocaine, and drug manufacturing equipment, suggesting the flat was being used as a drug-processing site. A 27-year-old beautician inside the residence was also arrested.

Authorities said the suspects had chosen a unit inside a high-security residential building to conceal their drug laboratory in an attempt to avoid detection.

The male suspect faces two counts of drug trafficking, while the woman faces one trafficking charge. Both are scheduled to appear before Kowloon City Magistrates’ Courts as investigations continue.

Customs officials warned that drug traffickers are increasingly using disguised shipments and private residences to evade law enforcement, but stressed that targeted intelligence operations continue to disrupt these networks.
