115kg Meth Hidden in Pickle Jars Seized by RCMP

Canadian police intercepted 115kg of meth hidden in pickle jars bound for Australia, leading to arrests in Canada and Australia.

Canadian authorities have intercepted a massive shipment of methamphetamine hidden inside jars of pickles, preventing the drugs from being smuggled from Canada to Australia. The operation led to three arrests across two countries and uncovered a large international drug trafficking network.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) and the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) discovered the shipment earlier this year at the Tsawwassen Container Examination Facility in British Columbia.

Investigators found 115 kilograms of methamphetamine concealed inside sealed jars of pickles that were being exported to Melbourne, Australia. Authorities believe the shipment was part of a coordinated effort to move large quantities of drugs internationally using disguised cargo.

On March 17, police arrested a 46-year-old foreign national in Kelowna, British Columbia, in connection with the seized shipment. On the same day, two additional suspects aged 40 and 63 were arrested in Australia as part of the joint investigation.

Searches of homes in Sydney and Melbourne uncovered:

Authorities say the case highlights the importance of international cooperation in fighting organized crime. The RCMP’s Federal Policing Pacific Region worked with Australian law enforcement to track the shipment and identify suspects involved in the smuggling attempt.

Officials said operations like this demonstrate how drug trafficking groups are increasingly using legitimate shipping channels and disguised products to transport large quantities of narcotics across borders.

Investigations into the trafficking network remain ongoing.
