A 19-year-old Dutch woman is in ICE detention after attempting to smuggle 76kg of ketamine into the U.S. via Dallas airport.

A 19-year-old woman from the Netherlands is currently being held in a U.S. immigration detention center after authorities caught her attempting to smuggle a large quantity of ketamine into the country.
The woman, who comes from the village of De Krim in the Dutch province of Overijssel, was arrested at Dallas airport in October along with a man from Manchester, United Kingdom. U.S. customs officers discovered suitcases containing approximately 76 kilograms of ketamine during the inspection.
During questioning, the woman told investigators she traveled by train to Paris before flying to Dallas. She said she met someone in Paris and claimed her suitcase had been swapped before the flight. However, she admitted knowing she was transporting drugs, although she said she did not realize the amount until the bags were opened by customs officials.
According to reports, she was promised €30,000 for completing the job, with the individuals behind the operation covering her travel expenses.
Drug trafficking charges in Texas can carry severe penalties ranging from 10 to 99 years in prison. However, the woman reportedly reached an agreement with prosecutors and received a four-month prison sentence, which she had already served while awaiting trial.
After completing the sentence, she was transferred on March 9 to the Prairieland ICE detention center because she is classified as an undocumented immigrant under U.S. immigration rules. Authorities have not yet confirmed when she will be returned to the Netherlands.
The Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it is aware of the situation and is providing consular assistance while the case continues to move through immigration procedures.
