88kg Cocaine Seized at Luxembourg Airport

Authorities seize nearly 88kg of cocaine worth €4.4M at Luxembourg Airport cargo centre in major cross-border trafficking probe.

Authorities in Luxembourg have seized nearly 88 kilograms of cocaine during a major operation at the cargo centre of Luxembourg Airport, in what officials say is a significant blow to a transnational drug trafficking network.

According to the public prosecutor’s office, the drugs have an estimated street value of around €4.4 million, based on typical European retail prices. Investigators believe the shipment was intended for distribution across European drug markets.

The seizure followed a joint investigation involving Luxembourgish and French customs, police, and judicial authorities, highlighting the cross-border nature of the trafficking operation.

Officials said the large quantity of narcotics and the use of international cargo routes point to the involvement of an organized criminal network with clearly defined roles among its members.

As part of the investigation, four suspects were arrested in France, with three of them placed in pre-trial detention. The case is now being handled by an investigating judge in Paris as authorities continue to examine the wider network behind the shipment.

The operation reflects growing concerns that Luxembourg Airport’s cargo hub is being used as a transit point for drug shipments moving across Europe. Authorities noted that earlier this year, a separate operation intercepted around half a tonne of cocaine passing through the country as part of an international trafficking route.

Investigations remain ongoing as law enforcement agencies work to identify additional suspects and determine the full scope of the smuggling operation.
