DEA-led raid targets MacArthur Park drug market in Los Angeles, arresting 18 suspects and seizing fentanyl in May 2026.

Federal authorities have arrested 18 people during a major crackdown targeting an open-air drug market operating around MacArthur Park in Los Angeles.
The operation, carried out on May 6, 2026, was led by the Drug Enforcement Administration alongside the Los Angeles Police Department and other federal agencies. Officials said the enforcement action focused on dismantling fentanyl and methamphetamine distribution networks linked to gangs operating in the area.
Authorities confirmed that 25 defendants have been charged in total, with seven suspects still being sought. Investigators executed multiple search warrants across Los Angeles County, including locations in South Los Angeles, Calabasas, and San Gabriel.
During the raids, agents seized approximately 18 kilograms, or about 40 pounds, of fentanyl with an estimated street value between $8 million and $10 million. Officials believe the narcotics were supplied through networks connected to the 18th Street Gang and potentially tied to the Sinaloa cartel.
Prosecutors allege that key suspects used homes and storefronts as stash locations before drugs were distributed by street-level dealers in the MacArthur Park area. Federal investigators documented at least 27 separate narcotics transactions involving fentanyl and methamphetamine between March and April 2026.
The crackdown, known as “Operation Free MacArthur Park,” involved more than 300 law enforcement personnel and is part of broader efforts to disrupt cartel-linked drug trafficking in Los Angeles. Officials stressed that the operation targeted narcotics distribution networks and was not related to immigration enforcement.
Law enforcement leaders said the operation aims to restore safety in an area long associated with gang activity, homelessness, and open-air drug sales.
