Freddy Najil of Memphis was sentenced to 211 months in prison after robbing three banks at gunpoint across Arkansas and Mississippi.

A Memphis man who carried out three armed bank robberies across Arkansas and Mississippi in 2024 has been sentenced to more than 17 years in federal prison, prosecutors announced on June 11.
Freddy Najil, 37, received a sentence of 211 months in federal prison after pleading guilty to bank robbery and being a felon in possession of a firearm. U.S. District Court Chief Judge Kristine G. Baker also ordered Najil to serve three years of supervised release following his prison term.
According to federal prosecutors, Najil robbed three banks at gunpoint over a three-month period, targeting institutions in Horn Lake and Southaven, Mississippi, as well as West Memphis, Arkansas.
The first robbery occurred on Feb. 9, 2024, at a Renasant Bank branch in Horn Lake. Investigators said Najil pointed a firearm at four employees while demanding money before fleeing with approximately $2,724.
More than two months later, on April 18, Najil allegedly robbed a SecurTrust Bank branch in Southaven. Authorities said he threatened a teller with a firearm and escaped with $12,251 in cash.
The crime spree ended on May 3, 2024, when Najil entered an Evolve Bank branch in West Memphis armed with a handgun and demanded money from employees. Prosecutors said he fled with $22,251, unaware that GPS tracking devices had been hidden among the stolen cash.
The tracking devices led law enforcement officers to Najil’s vehicle, triggering a pursuit into Memphis. After crashing the vehicle, he attempted to escape on foot but was quickly apprehended. Officers recovered a .40-caliber pistol and nearly all of the stolen money at the scene.
During interviews with investigators, Najil admitted to all three robberies and also acknowledged stealing the vehicle used in the West Memphis heist, according to court records.
Federal authorities said Najil qualified as an armed career criminal because of an extensive criminal history that included multiple robbery, kidnapping and drug-related convictions. That designation subjected him to a significantly enhanced federal sentence.
The case was investigated by the FBI‘s Little Rock and Jackson field offices, with assistance from local and state law enforcement agencies in Arkansas, Mississippi and Tennessee.
