The U.S. Coast Guard says Operation Pacific Viper has surpassed 225,000 pounds of cocaine seized since launching in August 2025.

The U.S. Coast Guard has surpassed 225,000 pounds of cocaine seized under Operation Pacific Viper, marking the latest milestone in an ongoing maritime counter-narcotics campaign targeting trafficking routes in the Eastern Pacific Ocean.
The milestone was announced June 17 by the Department of Homeland Security, which said the operation has continued to expand since its launch in August 2025. The latest figures include a recent interdiction that resulted in the seizure of 7,707 pounds of cocaine from suspected drug traffickers operating in international waters.
Operation Pacific Viper was established to disrupt cocaine smuggling networks that move narcotics from South and Central America toward North American markets. The initiative combines Coast Guard cutters, aircraft, tactical interdiction teams and intelligence resources to identify and stop suspected trafficking vessels before they reach their destinations.
The campaign has reached several major milestones in less than a year. In December 2025, the Coast Guard reported surpassing 150,000 pounds of cocaine seized, followed by the 200,000-pound mark in February 2026. The latest announcement pushes the total beyond 225,000 pounds, underscoring the sustained pace of interdictions across one of the world’s busiest maritime drug corridors.
According to federal officials, the operation has also led to the apprehension of numerous suspected drug smugglers and the disruption of transnational criminal organizations involved in large-scale cocaine trafficking. The Eastern Pacific remains a primary route for narcotics shipments bound for the United States and other international markets.
The Coast Guard said Operation Pacific Viper is conducted in coordination with U.S. Southern Command’s Joint Interagency Task Force-South and international partners. Intelligence gathered through those partnerships helps identify suspicious maritime activity and coordinate interdictions across vast stretches of ocean.
Officials described the operation as a key component of broader efforts to combat transnational criminal networks and reduce the flow of illicit drugs into the United States. The Coast Guard said it will continue maintaining an enhanced presence in the Eastern Pacific as trafficking organizations adapt their tactics and routes.
