Matthew Slate jailed six years in May 2026 after moderating multiple dark web CSAM forums and hosting abuse material.

A London man who acted as a senior moderator across multiple dark web child sexual abuse forums has been sentenced to six years in prison following a major investigation by the National Crime Agency.
Matthew Slate, 36, from Wood Green, was identified as a “Global Moderator” on Olympus, a pro-paedophile dark web forum, while also holding senior roles across at least six additional child sexual abuse platforms.
Investigators said Slate actively facilitated the sharing of child sexual abuse material (CSAM), participated in sexualized discussions involving children, and helped maintain online infrastructure used to distribute illegal content. Authorities also discovered he financed and co-created a separate image-hosting platform specifically designed to store and distribute abuse material.
The investigation began in March 2025 after intelligence linked Slate to CSAM activity online. NCA officers tracked him to his London address and arrested him the following day. During searches of his home, agents seized multiple electronic devices, including a computer logged into an active abuse forum and a site dedicated to uploading illegal material.
Forensic analysis uncovered nearly 87,000 indecent images of children stored across the devices, including more than 15,000 Category A files, the UK’s most severe classification for child abuse imagery.
Despite claiming during questioning that he had been blackmailed into funding the hosting platform, investigators said Slate provided no evidence to support the allegation. He later pleaded guilty to multiple offences linked to facilitating child sexual exploitation, distributing abuse material, and possessing prohibited images.
Slate was sentenced on May 8, 2026, at Wood Green Crown Court and was also handed a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order restricting his future online activity and contact with children.
The case highlights how dark web communities continue operating as structured online ecosystems where moderators, administrators, and users collaborate to distribute abuse material while attempting to evade law enforcement through encryption and anonymizing technologies. Investigators say dismantling these networks remains a major international priority.
